Something is Brewing in Downtown Anniston

September 4, 2013

DSCN1124Rodney Snider, owner of Cheaha Brewing Company, has always had a love of food and a passion for cooking. Like many others, working in a restaurant was his first job ever, but later in life, he was introduced to craft beer, which fit into his vision for the future well. Rodney says, “I have a huge sense of loyalty to this community and could have picked other places, but this is home. We’re sharing this passion for something we love to do, hoping to light a spark in the community. This doesn’t exist anywhere else, and now, it’s in the heart of downtown Anniston.”
For specialties, of course Cheaha Brewing is known for their onsite brewery, rotating tap, brewing quality beer. If Rodney had to pick one, he says the “Schwalserweisse, a German style, summer beer is really light with its hint of fruit.”
Rodney says, “You can eat and drink local because we brew onsite and a good portion of our food is local. We’re most well-known for our Burger. Most of it comes from Alabama, the meat and bread, and we try to use local farms’ produce. It just depends on what we can get.”
DSCN1145While working in the corporate world, Rodney’s travels and exposure to other brew pubs inspired pieces of the brewery, but Rodney says that most of “this is the combined effort and vision of the partners and team. My dad was a welder, so he inspired the metal legs of the tables and welded them together.”
Cheaha Brewing Company’s setting downtown showcases high exposed brick walls, vaulted ceilings with skylight, large windows allowing for natural light, and a wooden bar made from the repurposed wood of where the brewery now sits. As Rodney says, “We have a beautiful downtown, and these are rare, hidden gems across the southeast. Ours has character, which people should appreciate. The brewery is a rustic modern view of 19th Century Anniston, and we were able to keep that character throughout.”
