Better than Baby Back

Travel west on 204 from JSU, past the baseball field, and park at the shack, Cooter Brown’s Rib Shack to be exact, on the left. The best seats in the house are upstairs, so you can check out everyone else’s food, too. Settle in and get the RIBS! Based on the Restaurant Week recommendation, I ordered what Tim declared the special.
$10 Dinner: ¼ Slab of Ribs with 2 sides
$5 Lunch: Regular BBQ Sandwich with 1 side and soft drink
In Jacksonville, I’ve grown up eating this BBQ and Ribs. I’ve traveled to Memphis, and those “best” don’t hold a candle. The dry, mild rub is my favorite, with not too much of a kick to overwhelm the tender succulent taste of the smoked rib. You can’t go wrong with classic sides like French fries or mac’n cheese, but if you’re feelings adventurous, try the hillbilly egg rolls, for an appetizer. Honestly, I’ve never had a bad thing a Cooter Brown’s, so if you haven’t, try it out and see why it’s a local favorite.
