What is A Chamber?
February 25, 2014
When visiting with business owners, students and other members of the community, we’re often asked, “What is a Chamber of Commerce?” Chambers are generally a local business network organization that advocates on behalf of businesses and the community. For instance, your Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce is “a member-driven organization, coordinating and promoting the economic development of Calhoun County, Alabama, resulting in a community that is an outstanding place to live, work and visit.” With that as a mission, what does it mean? We at the Chamber are the #1 source for information and resources for our local and regional communities, members, and businesses. With that always in mind, we provide programs, trainings, resources and dialogue to assist in our businesses and industries’ growth and development, offering seminars on pertinent topics and events to showcase all our area businesses and organizations offer.
We, unlike some Chambers, also house the visitor and tourism branch of Calhoun County, providing resources, tools and information that promote this county and region as a tourist destination. We also offer activities and programs geared toward member and county educational and career development, like that of our Leadership Calhoun County and Youth Leadership Calhoun County programs. We are NOT a branch of a city or government agency, but a member funded and driven organization representing all Calhoun County municipalities and surrounding areas.
We exist because people and businesses invest and contribute to this network, wanting to do business with one another and improve the area’s business climate. All Chambers are of different sizes; however, the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce is proud to boast a membership of similar size to that of the larger metropolitan areas. Representing approximately 1,000 members, we at the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce are 3 star accredited by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, for representing high quality, expertise, and strong leadership, while serving as the Voice of Business for our region. Although we are separate entities, we continue to partner with our surrounding Chambers to promote our communities and area economic development.
Without our members and volunteers, we could not run effectively. After all, our members are truly that which makes up the Chamber. Thank you for your loyalty and commitment to the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, enabling us to strongly serve you, Calhoun County, to accomplish the goals our membership tells us are of importance in feedback and involvement.
