Restaurant Week: Day 6
October 6, 2014
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Peerless Saloon was established in 1899. In 1992, Dub and Kristy reopened the Peerless Saloon to the public. In 2008, they broken down some walls and opened up the Grille. Although, they still boast favorites, like the Cuban Panini, this restaurant week, they’re dishing out a new local favorite, Shrimp and Grits. This dish is packed with flavor, diced red peppers, bacon, onions, and shrimp sautéed in a buttery garlic sauce. The grits absorb the sauce and flavors. The dish also comes with a side salad. The Ranch and honey mustard are delicious.
With the original located in Auburn, this state staple still dishes out the steamed sandwiches, nachos, and college comfort food. This Restaurant Week, their Jacksonville location is dishing out a signature, the Momma’s Love. Visitors can build their own sandwich or indulge in one of Momma’s own, with its old school deli vibe. The Buff Nachos, topped with buffalo chicken, are great too.
