Learn from the Masters

July 31, 2015

“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.” ~Henry Ford

Whether you have that diploma in your hand or have 20 years of experience, you never stop learning. “Every problem is an opportunity.” There are always new technologies to implement, new phrases to understand and new skills to learn. It’s important for us all to realize, we don’t know everything. There is always room for improvement, and here are a few ways to take it step by step.

Learning is not always easy. “It’s always been done this way,” does not mean it’s the best or most effective way to do something. Think of the outcome. How do you feel when you’ve reached your goal? Audrey Hepburn once said, “Nothing is impossible. The word itself says ‘I’m possible.’” Set goals, and if you fail, “try, try again.”

  • Don’t be a “Smarty Pants”

There is no “I” in team. Help those around you be the best they can be, and when they realize you are trying to learn from them, they too feel better. Keep an open mind, and you’ll discover things you never knew. From Managers to Secretaries, no matter who it is, there is always something you can learn bDSC00876y listening and observing.

  • Listen more than you Speak

Listening teaches you about others. If you know what they think, you often know how they’ll respond to you. This also teaches you about how to reach and approach your coworkers, your audience and customers. What are their interests? What do they hate? It also enlightens you on what they need help with. If they struggle with software or more minor stuff, help them, and they’ll realize you care. Then, that caring energy becomes contagious, and they pay it forward.

  • mastersThink Outside the Box

It often goes beyond the office. Local masters and leaders participate in community events, volunteer in their community and give back to their community. If you want to be noticed go above and beyond the average to engage in activities meant to help you and your community thrive. Area leaders will notice your contribution, build a relationship with you, and you never know what you will learn from various mentors, bringing diverse knowledge and experiences to share with you.

Continue to learn and grow, each and every day. Seize projects and activities that excite and engage you! See what new things inspire you and take risks. You never know where new paths may lead.
